I think of my office as a holding place
for favorite props until they find their
perfect home in one of our stores.

–This is my inspiration board, where I put clippings from books, blogs or magazines that catch my eye. There’s a tear sheet in this snapshot that shows a wall of frames—they’re all different colors and sizes and feature different types of art. We loved the idea so much, we now hang frames in our stores in a similarly eclectic way.
–I discovered these hand-painted figurines at a store in Brooklyn called The Future Perfect. They’re by KleinReid and are a modern take on traditional wooden Japanese dolls. Crewcuts came to mind the second I saw them!
–I love birds—somehow one always finds its way into all of our shops, no matter what. This vintage owl (1) was a flea market find.
These little ceramic sculptures (2) are made by one of my favorite French design companies,
Astier de Villatte. A lot of our specialty stores have their flowers displayed in the jewelry cases.
–Another bird, of course! This time, an Eames bird by Vitra.
I love reading and collecting books and magazines. Some of the books I’m constantly referencing are
Interiors by Martyn Thompson,
Pantone: The 20th Century in Color by Leatrice Eiseman and Keith Recker and
Alexander Girard by Todd Oldham and Kiera Coffee. As far as magazines go, I love
World of Interiors,
Elle Decoration UK and
Avalanche—a short-lived art magazine from the 1970s. We actually found some original copies of it and they’re now displayed inside some of our men’s stores.
