Images of model Agyness Deyn exploring the sand dunes of Namibia, models
being dwarfed by giant dolls and a pilot taking flight in a jet plane made of a huge
French baguette could only be the work of British fashion photographer
Tim Walker. His tongue-in-cheek style is celebrated in a large-scale
photography exhibition at Somerset House in London and documented
in Tim Walker: Story Teller
(published by Abrams), which was released last month.
A walk through the exhibition, which is peppered with props from past shoots,
reveals a roster of recognizable fashion and Hollywood subjects, including
actresses Tilda Swinton (shown above) and Helena Bonham Carter and designers
Alber Elbaz and the late Alexander McQueen. Most inspiring about
Tim, in addition to his unique and dreamy vision, is that he’s one of those
few photographers who still work exclusively with film.
Tim Walker: Story Teller is on view at Somerset House
now through January 27, 2013.
