Ludlow Lowdown

get up close and personal with Tom,
our head of women’s design,
as he rocks our Ludlow jacket his way…
Describe your style.
It’s a mix of classic American mixed with a little European modernity. As a man, I think it’s sometimes hard being creative without looking silly…it’s a very fine line.

What did you do to make the Ludlow suit jacket your own?
I paired it with the matching suit pant, then added a vintage off-white tee and Lanvin sneakers. I also like playing with fit and proportion, so I’ll often wear my Ludlow jacket with baggy casual pants, and sometimes I’ll even buy the jacket a size too small.

What do you like best about the Ludlow jacket?
It’s a great wardrobe building piece—I have one in black, two in navy and one in grey. I really love great tailoring, and I’ve always believed that a man should only buy the most beautifully crafted jackets and shoes. Until the Ludlow, I only bought designer jackets. Now I have to force myself (on occasion) to buy a jacket that isn’t a Ludlow. The fit is impeccable.

Where are you from originally? Does where you grew up have any influence on what you do for a living?
I grew up in New York, and my parents were young and stylish when I was born—my Dad shopped at Barney’s when I was young and that’s where he took me to get my first sports jackets. Enough said.

Any hidden talents worth revealing?
If there is a great men’s shoe out there, I will find it.

If you could pack one suitcase to take with you to a deserted island, what would be in it?
SPF30 sunblock, a sketch pad, some pencils and charcoal, one Olebar & Brown swimsuit and the rest of the suitcase I would fill with a good Sancerre.

The scoop on Jackson:

Nickname: Munchie
Age: 10 years

How did your pup come into your life?
My partner David found him at an exotic animal farm in New Jersey.

Did you name him after anyone or anything?
He was born in Jacksonville, NJ.

Where are Jackson’s favorite pit stops?
He loves the card store around the corner in my Chelsea neighborhood…the guy who owns it loves him and always gives him a treat, so he always wants to go in there. He also loves Barney’s CO-OP—I let him off his leash and he runs around like a maniac.

What’s the best thing about having your pooch?
Unconditional love.

What’s his splurge food?
Sometimes I buy him this super-organic food.

If Jackson had a human voice, whose would it sound like?
Woody Allen.

What’s his personal style?
Kinda grunge.

Any other funny habits?
The salad spinner freaks him out…he barks like crazy.

Has Jackson ever attended a wedding or any other black-tie occasion?
No, thank goodness.

Stay tuned, as our Pet Project series will continue each Friday…
